Springfield, Mo. – The Evangel University women’s tennis player Amy Grossklag advanced to the Intercollegiate Tennis Association’s NAIA National Championship Tournament semifinals while she and her doubles partner Jenna Elliott lost in the quarterfinals Thursday in Mobile, Alabama.
Grossklag, a sophomore from Bonita Springs, Florida won her quarterfinals match over 4th seeded Lilian Feirreira of Oklahoma Baptist 6-4, 6-3. Grossklag will advance to the national semifinals where she will face Tiffany William from Auburn-Montgomery (Ala.) on Friday. William is the top seeded player in the tournament and the native of Great Britain was on their NAIA National Championship team last year.
The doubles team of Grossklag / Elliott lost their quarterfinals match to the doubles team from Oklahoma Baptist. This time Feirreira, teamed with her partner Marianna Rosa, got past Evangel with a 6-3, 6-4 win. Grossklag / Elliott will move to the consolation round where they will play the doubles
team from Indiana Wesleyan on Friday.
The ITA-NAIA National Championship tournament allows individuals and doubles teams to compete for national championships during the Fall while teams compete for championships during the Spring season.
