Austin Jacobs finishes 2nd at HAAC Cross Country championship, qualifies for nationals

Springfield, Mo. – Evangel University men’s cross country runner Austin Jacobs qualified for the NAIA National Championship meet Saturday as he finished in second place at the Heart of America conference championship meet at Graceland University.

Jacobs ran the 8-kilometer race in 25:32.70 breaking an Evangel record and finishing 19 seconds off of the winning time.
The senior from West Des Moines, Iowa will be making his second consecutive trip to nationals and it marks the sixth straight year an Evangel runner has qualified for the national meet.

The Evangel men’s team finished 3rd. James Ruckdeschell was 17th with a time of 27:03.70 and was Evangel second best runner in the event.

Evangel’s women’s team finished fifth at the HAAC championship. Victoria Schmitt was Evangel’s best finisher coming in
15th completing the 5-kilometer race in 19:43.00.
