Springfield, Mo. – The Evangel University men’s basketball team survived a six minute scoreless spell in the second half and rallied to beat College of the Ozarks 68-64 Monday night in front of 1,167 at the Ashcroft Center.
Evangel led 36-30 at halftime after leading by as much as 12. The Bobcats went on a 12-0 run over a six minute span in the second half to go by eight with 6:35 left.
The Crusaders took the lead with less than two minutes left and a J.J. Williams three-pointer gave the Crusaders the lead for good 63-60 moments later.
Zack Kleine led Evangel with 16 points while Brodie Wingert added 14. Stephen Cotten had 13 points and 10 rebounds and Williams also had 13 points.
Nathane Simniok led all scorers with 22 points for the Bobcats.
Evangel improved to 2-1 and while College of the Ozarks suffered their first loss and fell to 3-1.
Evangel is at home Thursday hosting MidContinent (Ky.) at 7:30 p.m. as part of the Evangel-BBC Classic. Baptist Bible will face Missouri Baptist at 5:30 p.m. before Evangel’s game. The games shift to BBC’s campus on Friday.
