Cleveland, Tenn – Evangel’s women’s basketball team dropped the first game of the Lee University Classic Friday in a 52-47 loss to Auburn-Montgomery (Ala.) in Cleveland, Tenn.
The Crusaders trailed 30-16 at halftime and battled back shooting 57 percent from the floor in the second half but fell by five.
Forward Sierra McSpadden had a team high 20 points on 8 of 13 shooting and 3 of 5 shooting from three-point range. She also had 8 rebounds but was the only Evangel player in double-figures.
LaKenya Drayton had 22 points for Auburn-Montgomery to lead all scorers. She also had a game-high 14 rebounds.
Evangel plays the second half of the event on Saturday facing host Lee (Tenn.). The Flames are ranked #9 in the NAIA-I preseason poll.
