Football ends regular season nationally ranked

Springfield, Mo. – The Evangel University football team ended the regular season nationally ranked in the NAIA coming in at #23 in this week’s national coaches’ poll. The national ranking marks the first time Evangel has ended a regular season ranked since 2005 and the second time since 2002.

The Crusaders finished 7-4 with a 6-3 record in the Heart of America conference. The seven wins were the most for Evangel since 2005 and the program’s first winning season since 2007. Evangel has been ranked in each Top 25 poll since Oct. 1 and peaked as high as 15th.

Five HAAC teams were ranked in the final regular season poll and three conference teams advanced on the NAIA National
Championship Series that starts on Saturday. Missouri Valley, the HAAC champion, was ranked 2nd and received a first place vote. MidAmerica Nazarene received an at-large bid to playoffs and is ranked 9th.
Baker also received a playoff berth and is ranked #11.
