Shawnee, Okla. – Second ranked Oklahoma Baptist pulled away from Evangel in the second half for a 79-65 win to stay unbeaten.
The Crusaders trailed 38-33 at halftime but forged a 44-44 tie six minutes into the second half. The Bison (8-0) then pulled away with a 12-2 to take command of the lead. The Crusaders got with six trailing 67-61 with 3:15 remaining. Oklahoma Baptist countered with a three-point basket by Chase Adams to go ahead by nine and the Bison closed the game out for their eighth straight win.
Steven Cotten led Evangel with 17 points and 6 rebounds. Kameron Price for the Bison led all scorers with 21.
The loss snapped Evangel’s 7-game winning streak giving them the first loss since their season opening game and dropping their record to 7-2. Oklahoma Baptist improved to 8-0.
Evangel opens Heart of America conference play on Thursday for their next game facing Central Methodist at the Ashcroft Center. The women’s game begins at 5:30 p.m. followed by the men’s game at 7:30 p.m.
