Men's basketball blows out Baker 80-39

Springfield, Mo. –  Evangel took an 11-point halftime lead and blew it wide open from there outscoring Baker 49-19 in the second half for an 80-39 win over the Wildcats at the Ashcroft Center Tuesday night.

Evangel led 31-20 at halftime, then proceeded to make 16 of their 21 shots in the second half while holding Baker to 5 for 22 from the field in the half.

The Crusaders shot 62 percent from the field in the game making 29 of 47 attempts while the Wildcats were 13 for 48 for 27 percent.

Jayme Donnelly led Evangel with 15 points. The senior from Linn, Mo. went 6 for 8 from the floor and 2 for 3 from three-point range. Stephen Cotten added 14 points, Victor Agbasi had 11 and Brodie Wingert had 10 for Evangel. All 12 players on Evangel’s roster scored.

No Baker player scored in double-figures as they were led by Ben Steinlage’s 9 points.

Evangel improved to 9-3 and 2-1 in the Heart of America conference while Baker dropped to 7-5 and 1-2 in the league.

Earlier in the day, Evangel moved up to #16 nationally in the NAIA-I coaches’ poll.

Evangel plays an exhibition game Saturday against Livin’ the Dream at 4 p.m. at the Ashcroft Center.
