Springfield, Mo. – Evangel University football WR Jesse Vaughn was named to the American Football Coaches Association’s All-American team in the NAIA division.
Vaughn, a junior from Houston, Texas, led the Heart of America conference and set an Evangel single season record for receiving yards with 1,258. His 114 yards per game average is fourth best nationally in the NAIA. Vaughn had 59 receptions, the second most in the conference and his 8 touchdowns were the third most by a wide receiver in the HAAC. He was named the Offensive Player of the Year in the HAAC and named a First Team all-conference performer.
AFCA only selects only a first team, 25-player All-American list and Vaughn is Evangel’s first player to be honored by the organization since 2006 when OL Jeremiah Hays was named to the squad.
The NAIA will announce their All-American list later this year.
The Crusaders finished 7-4, 6-3 in the Heart of America conference and ranked 23rd nationally in the final NAIA poll.
