Zack Kleine named men's basketball HAAC Player of the Week

Springfield, Mo. – Evangel forward Zack Kleine was named the Heart of America conference Player of the Week for his play in two Crusaders wins last week.

The junior from Mt. Vernon, Mo. averaged 20.5 points, 4.5 rebounds and 2.5 assists in two games while shooting 13 for 20 from the floor. In addition to shooting 65 percent from the field, Kleine went 5 for 5 from three-point range and 10 for 11 from the free throw line.

Kleine had 15 points during a 7 for 7 shooting night against Avila last Thursday and followed that with a career high 26 points Saturday in Evangel’s win at 24th ranked Culver-Stockton.

The award is Kleine’s first this season and a first for an Evangel player this year. He won the league’s Player of the Week award once last season.

The Crusaders are currently 13-4, 6-1 in the Heart of America conference and ranked 13th nationally in NAIA-I. They play at MidAmerica Nazarene Thursday at 7:30 p.m. facing a Pioneers team that is tied for first place with the Evangel at 6-1 in the HAAC.
