Springfield, Mo. – Evangel University’s James Hafner qualified for the NAIA National Indoor Track and Field Championship meet in the Race Walk at a meet hosted by Illinois College Saturday.
Hafner finished third in the 3,000 meter Race Walk with a national-qualifying time of 14:01.58. The senior from Richmond, Michigan set a school record with is time breaking the previous mark he had owned by nearly a minute. Hafner’s previous mark was 14:59.39 set last year at the Heart of America conference championship meet.
Hafner qualifies for the national championship for the second straight season. He is eligible to compete at the national event in Geneva, Ohio Feb. 28-Mar. 2.
Hafner was Evangel’s only competitor Saturday. Evangel’s full indoor track team will compete next weekend at a meet at Principia (Ill.).
