Fayette, Mo. – Evangel pulled away from Central Methodist in the second half for a 71-61 win in Fayette, Mo. Thursday night.

Evangel led 32-31 at halftime but took a double-digit lead as forward Stephen Cotten scored 12 points in the first nine minutes of the second half. Evangel led by as much as 14 and held off the Eagles to win for the seventh time in eight games.

Cotten finished with 18 points and led all scorers while Victor Agbasi added 11 points off the bench. Michael Banks, Jr. and Melvin Tillman both had 13 to lead Central Methodist.

Evangel improved to 15-5 and 8-2 in the Heart of America conference. Central Methodist dropped to 15-7 and 5-5 in the league.

Evangel returns home to play Benedictine on Saturday. Game time is 4 p.m. at the Ashcroft Center.
