Springfield, Mo. – Evangel University head football coach Brenton Illum has announced that David Flores has been added to the Crusaders coaching staff as an assistant.

Flores will coach outside linebackers and serve as equipment coordinator. He was a running back and tight end for the Crusaders from 2006-2009. Flores spent the last two seasons as an assistant coach at Avila University under head coach Justin Berna.

“David is a perfect hire for us,” said head coach Brenton Illum. “He loves Evangel, he loves to work and he loves the process of building champion people.  He has developed himself a lot over the past two years at Avila and now re-joins our staff in a very important role.  We are very proud of him and happy to have him home.”

Flores was a student assistant coach at Evangel in 2009 and a graduate assistant in Illum’s first season as head coach in 2010. He started his playing career at Evangel as a running and moved to tight end in his senior season. Flores was a standout high school player at Fayetteville (Ark.) High School earning all-conference honors as a linebacker in Class 7A-West. He graduated from Evangel with a degree in Physical Education in 2010.

The Crusaders ended last season 7-4 and ranked 23rd nationally in the final NAIA poll.
