Walnut Ridge, Ark. – Evangel opened the season with a 2-1 win at Williams Baptist in game one of a doubleheader Tuesday. Blake McKnight worked a complete game going 7 innings allowing 1 run on 5 hits with 1 walk and 7 strikeouts. Shon Valdez hit an RBI double in the fifth inning giving the Crusaders a 2-1 lead and they held on for the win.

Walnut Ridge, Ark. – Evangel held off a Williams Baptist rally in the seventh inning to earn a 7-6 win and a sweep of a doubleheader on Tuesday. Williams Baptist scored five runs in the seventh before reliever Sam Garrison could record the final out. LF Brandon Cobb went 2 for 3 at the plate and hit a solo home run for the Crusaders.

Evangel hosts four-game series against Central Christian (Kan.) with doubleheaders on Friday and Saturday at the Crusaders Baseball Complex. Friday’s DH starts at 1 p.m. and Saturday is a noon start.
