Springfield, Mo. – Evangel improved to 3-0 with a 4-1 win in their home opener over Central Christian (Kan.) Friday at the Evangel Baseball Complex.
The Crusaders scored a run in the second and third and opened up a 4-1 lead in the fourth on a two-RBI double by Nate Jones. Jones finished the day going 2 for 4 with 2 RBIs and a run scored. Christian Maciel went 3 for 4 with a run and an RBI.
Koby Gaddis started the game for Evangel and pitched the first four innings allowing one run on just two hits. Sam Garrison picked up the win in relief as he worked the final five innings and shut out Central Christian allowing three hits with one walk and five strikeouts.
Today’s game was originally scheduled as a doubleheader but changed yesterday to a single, nine-inning game.
The series continues tomorrow with a doubleheader scheduled between the two teams at noon at the Evangel Baseball Complex.
