Springfield, Mo. – Heart of America conference regular season champion MidAmerica Nazarene held off Evangel for a 63-52 win Monday at the Ashcroft Center.

The Pioneers, ranked 9th nationally, held Evangel to 18 first half points trailing 27-18 at halftime. The Crusaders fell behind by as much as 16 but pulled back within seven midway through the second half.

Evangel forward Sierra McSpadden led all scorers with 20 points and added 10 rebounds. Emily Akins had 14 for the Crusaders.

Kelsey Balcom led the Pioneers with 10 points.

MidAmerica Nazarene won their 17th straight game and improved to 27-2 and finished the conference with a record of 17-1. Evangel concluded the regular season 7-17 and 6-12 in the league.  

Evangel finishes the conference in seventh place and will open the Heart of America conference tournament Thursday at second seeded Benedictine at 7 p.m. in Atchison, Kan.
