Springfield, Mo. – Evangel had their nine game winning streak snapped in a 99-92 loss to 20th ranked MidAmerica Nazarene Monday night at the Ashcroft Center.

The Crusaders, who hadn’t lost since their Jan. 17 loss at MidAmerica Nazarene, lost to the Pioneers for the second time this season. MidAmerica Nazarene shot 63 percent from the field during the game hitting 39 of 62 shots and they went 20 for 30 in the second half.

Pioneers guard Rustin Dowd had a game-high 25 points while Luke Thomas added 20 points and had 12 rebounds.

Evangel’s Zack Kleine had 19 points to lead Evangel and Victor Agbasi had 18 points.

The Crusaders ended the regular season 22-6 and 15-3 in the Heart of America conference and had entered the game already having clinched the league’s regular season title. MidAmerica Nazarene ended the regular season 22-8 and 14-4 in the league. The Pioneers tied for the second in the conference and will be seeded third in the HAAC tournament that begins Thursday.

Evangel will open the HAAC tournament Thursday hosting eighth seeded Peru State at 7 p.m. in the Ashcroft Center. As regular season champion, the Crusaders have home court advantage throughout the league tournament.
