Sierra McSpadden named 1st team all-conference; Akins named honorable mention

Springfield, Mo. – Evangel forward Sierra McSpadden was named a 1st Team All-Heart of America conference selection in vote of league coaches this week. She is the 33rd player in program history to receive 1st Team all-conference honors and it marks the fourth consecutive year Evangel has had a 1st Team all-league player.

Sophomore guard Emily Akins was named an honorable mention all-conference selection. Akins made the all-conference list last year as a freshman as well.

McSpadden, a senior from Chelsea, Oklahoma, is the conference’s second leading scorer averaging 16.9 points per game. She is also 10th in rebounding averaging 7.2 boards per game. McSpadden also ranks in the league’s top five in field goal percentage (.469), free throw percentage (818) and three-point shooting percentage (.360).

Akins, from Springfield-Parkview, is fourth in the HAAC in scoring averaging 15.5 points. She leads the league in free throw shooting hitting 84.7 % of her foul shots and is in the top five in three-pointers made (2 per game).

The Crusaders (7-17, 6-12) open the conference tournament Thursday night at 12th ranked Benedictine (26-4, 16-2). Evangel is seeded 7th in the tournament while the Ravens are 2nd. Game time is 7 p.m. in Atchison, Kan.
