Springfield, Mo. – Evangel took the field for the first time in 18 days and split their Heart of America conference opening games in a doubleheader against Peru State.

Evangel won the first game 7-0. Crusaders starter Lenzie Boring fired a one-hit shutout while allowing one walk with 10 strikeouts. Evangel banged out 17 hits and got home runs with back-to-back shots in the fifth inning from Kari Tall-Domingos and Lauren Bunch-Bright. Jessica Jett went 3 for 3 at the plate with an RBI, a double and a walk. The win snapped a four-game losing streak for Evangel.

Peru State took the second game jumping ahead with a run in the first and added four runs in the third to lead 5-1. The Crusaders posted two runs in the third on a single by Shelby Hoffman, but Evangel left the bases loaded in the inning and Bobcats starter Devon Massengale allowed just two hits in the last four innings.

Evangel is back on their home field Thursday hosting MidAmerica Nazarene in a conference doubleheader at 2 p.m.
