For Release: (Immediately: April 23, 2013)
Springfield, Mo. – Evangel University football will conclude spring drills Friday with their intra-squad Spring Game at JFK Stadium across from Parkview High School. Gates open and warm-ups start at 6 p.m. with the scrimmage starting at approximately 6:20 p.m. Admission to the game is free.
The contest will feature Evangel’s offense against their defense with a scoring system in place to allow both squads opportunities for points. Special teams will not be featured in the game. The game will be four quarters with a 15-minute running clock and a brief intermission. The scrimmage should last between 60 to 90 minutes.
Following the game, fans are invited onto the field as the coaching staff will announce Evangel’s team captains for the 2013 season. In addition, the coaching staff will host a postgame gathering in Springfield where fans, parents and alumni can talk about the game and upcoming season. The Crusaders will also be hosting recruits currently enrolled in their junior year of high school and will serve as special guests on campus throughout the day of the game.
Head coach Brenton Illum will enter into his fourth year at the helm of the Crusaders program in 2013. Last year, Evangel finished 7-4 and ranked 23rd nationally in the NAIA. They are scheduled to open the season Sept. 14 at Kansas Wesleyan.
