Springfield, Mo. – Evangel pitcher Blake McKnight was named an honorable mention NAIA All-American and becomes the program’s first All-American in 13 years.
The senior from O’Fallon, Missouri went 11-3 with a 1.56 earned run average. He struck out 83 batters in 92.1 innings as opposing hitters batted just .156 against him last season. His 11 wins led the Heart of America conference and he led the league in strikeouts, opposing average and innings pitched. McKnight was also named a 1st Team All-HAAC performer.
McKnight becomes Evangel’s first baseball All-American since outfielder Tim Phipps won the same honors in 2000. He is only the fourth NAIA All-American in Evangel baseball history joining Phipps, OF Russ Burns (1995) and C Scott Morgan (1983).
McKnight helped Evangel to a program record 32 wins as the Crusaders went 32-19 and 16-10 in the Heart of America conference in 2013. He is currently playing for the Ozark Generals in the amateur M.I.N.K. League.
