Springfield, Mo. – Evangel’s softball team swept the first Heart of America conference weekly awards as Bethany Bacon was named the league’s Player of the Week and Lenzie Boring was named Pitcher of the Week.
Bacon, a sophomore from Kirkland, Washington, hit .417 in five games last week going 5 for 12. She hit two home runs, a double, scored five runs and had seven RBIs. Her two home runs came in Evangel’s 15-3 win at Lyon (Ark.).
Boring was the conference’s Pitcher of the Week as she factored in to four of Evangel’s five wins. The senior from Humbolt, Kansas went 3-0 with one save and she did not allow an earned run. Boring worked 19 innings and allowed just one walk while striking out 22. Boring won Pitcher of the Week honors twice last season.
The Crusaders are 5-0 so far this season and their doubleheader scheduled tomorrow against Lyon (Ark.) in Springfield has been postponed to Wed., March 13.
