Seven Crusaders named preseason All-Americans by USA College Football News

Springfield, Mo. – Seven returning players to Evangel’s 2013 football roster have been named preseason small college All-Americans by USA College Football News.

WR Jesse Vaughn was a first team All-American selection by the publication. The senior from Houston, Texas set a single-season record at Evangel with 1,258 receiving yards in 11 games. He had 60 receptions and eight touchdowns last year. Vaughn was the HAAC Offensive Player of the Year last season and was a first team NAIA All-American.

RB Otis Brown was named a 3rd team preseason All-American. Brown, a junior from Gainesville, Fla., split time between running back and wide receiver last season. He rushed for 585 yards with eight touchdowns while picking up 334 receiving yards with three touchdown catches.

Fair Grove product Cam Bruffett was also a 3rd team selection at defensive back. Bruffett led Evangel last year with five interceptions and seven pass break-ups. He also forced a fumble and blocked a kick last season while making 45 tackles.

Four more Evangel players were named honorable mention All-America selections. QB Andrew Brimhall (Sr., Cordova, Tenn.), DB Denzell Billy (Sr., Houston, Tex.), LB Zach Reed (Sr., Marshfield, Mo.) and Ell C. Teycer (Sr., Houston, Tex.) all received honorable mention honors.

Evangel went 7-4 last season, 6-3 in the Heart of America conference and finished 23rd in the final NAIA national poll. The Crusaders open the 2013 season Sept. 14 at Kansas Wesleyan.
