Springfield, Mo. – Evangel is picked fourth in the Heart of America football preseason coaches’ poll. The conference announced its preseason poll today at their annual media day in Kansas City.

The Crusaders return 28 lettermen and 14 starters from a team that went 7-4, 6-3 in the conference and finished ranked 23rd nationally in the NAIA last season.

Evangel finished fourth in the conference standings last year and this year’s coaches’ poll had the top five selections reflect the top five in the conference standings last season. Missouri Valley, defending conference champion, was picked first. MidAmerica Nazarene was selected and Baker was picked third. Benedictine was picked fifth behind the Crusaders.

The Crusaders open the 2013 season Sept. 14 at Kansas Wesleyan. Their first home game is Sept. 28 when they host MidAmerica Nazarene at JFK Stadium.
