Amy Fritz accepts ITA Central-East trophy

Springfield, Mo. – Evangel women’s tennis will send players to the national championship of the Intercollegiate Tennis Association winning regional titles in singles and doubles last weekend in Springfield.
Amy Grossklag-Fritz won her second straight regional championship winning the ITA Central-East title. The junior from Bonita Springs, Florida won five matches in the 32-player field to win the championship. Fritz defeated Jessica Worring from Graceland 6-4, 6-2 in the championship. Last year, Fritz captured the ITA Central-West crown. Evangel shifted to the Central-East region this season.
Evangel’s double’s team of Amy Grossklag-Fritz and Jenna Elliott won their tournament winning four times during the weekend to take the title. The pair earned a first round bye then won three matches all by 8-1 scores. They defeated the top seeded team of Seraphine Buchmann and Aziza Butoyi from Olivet Nazarene 8-6. It marks the second straight regional doubles crown for Fritz-Elliott.
Evangel will send Fritz and Fritz/Elliott to the ITA-NAIA National Championship tournament on Oct. 11-13 in Fort Myers, Florida. The event will mark the fourth straight year Evangel has advanced players to the ITA National Championship.
