Job Responsibilities: Coordinating Music Education. Placement and supervising practicum and student teachers. Collegiate National Association for Music Education sponsor. Directs the Concert Choir.

Favorite Thing About Work: My favorite aspect of teaching at Evangel is the wonderful students I am privileged to teach! I enjoy maintaining contact with many of our alumni and knowing about their professional successes, challenges, and families.
Was an Evangel Student: I graduated with a bachelor's degree in Music Education.
Favorite Memory as a Student: Meeting my husband, Phil. The wonderful and caring faculty who impacted my life as well as the many, many friends who are still part of our lives.

Personal Information: Music is my profession, my passion and a hobby too. I enjoy sports. My husband and I are avid Evangel sports fans. We also like the St. Louis Cardinals, and Rams, the Kansas City Chiefs and the Royals. I also enjoy politics. My most enjoyment comes from spending time with my family and especially my 3 young grandchildren. They are 5, 2,and almost 1 year old. Both my son, daughter-in-law and my daughter and son-in-law live in Springfield so we are together very frequently. All but our son-in-law are Evangel grads.
Other: Sharon Wilkins, a native of Wichita Kansas, holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in music from Evangel University and a Masters degree in Secondary Education with an emphasis in Humanities from Drury University. Additional Graduate hours have been earned from Wichita State University, the University of Missouri at Kansas City, Georgia State University, and Pittsburgh State University (Kansas), and Webster Groves.
Mrs. Wilkins’ teaching background includes two years in Germany, two years in Atlanta, Georgia, and 44 years in Missouri including her 29 years at Evangel University, where she is an Associate Professor of Music. During these years, her students have performed at MENC, ACDA, GMEA, and MMEA conventions. They’ve been honored in performances for the State Republican, Democratic, and PTA conventions, three Missouri Governors, Presidents Ronald Reagan and George W. Bush, Vice President Richard Cheney, four European Tours, and four solo performances in Carnegie Hall.
Mrs. Wilkins has earned many professional honors including: Who’s Who in American Education, Who’s Who Among American Teachers, Cambridge Who's Who and VIP, Marquis Who's Who and two Nominations for Outstanding Young Woman recognitions in both Springfield and America.
Mrs. Wilkins has been active in several professional organizations, having held district and state offices in Missouri Music Education Association and the American Choral Director’s Association. She is past Choral Vice-President and also the state College/University Vice President for MMEA. Other memberships include Mu Phi Epsilon and Pi Kappa Lambda. Her personal singing highlights include performing with Mid –American Singers,the Atlanta Symphony Chorus under the direction of the late Robert Shaw and Studio recording opportunities.
Mrs. Wilkins has served as music director for Springfield Little Theatre, Choral director for Springfield Regional Opera, and approximately 30 years as a church music director. As music director of the Christian Arts Organization, Messiah Project, she has conducted concerts in Springfield, the mid-west, and throughout Europe and Asia on numerous tours.
At Evangel, Mrs. Wilkins responsibilities are varied: She teaches music methods classes to music majors and assigns and evaluates all music practicum and student teachers. As the music education specialist, she is also the sponsor for CNAfME. Directing the Concert Choir and teaching Class Piano is also part of her instructional load.
Mrs. Wilkins has been married to Phil Wilkins. He owns Wilkins Insurance in Springfield. They have two children, Patrick, 2003 EU alum, who is married to 2002 EU Alumnus Christina Ashforth Wilkins. They have one son, and an infant daughter. Daughter Julie, 2002 EU graduate, married to Robert Buerke. They have a young son and daughter. Sp 05
