Springfield, Mo. – Former Evangel University men’s basketball player Chad Gillaspy was a first round draft pick and the fourth player taken overall in the National Basketball League of Canada’s free agent draft held Monday night in Toronto.
Gillaspy was drafted by the Summerset Storm following a trade with the Oshawa Power that gave the Storm the rights to the fourth overall pick. The Storm used the pick the select Gillaspy.
Gillaspy, an honorable mention NAIA All-American in his senior season in 2011, averaged 12.3 points and 8 rebounds per game in his final collegiate season. He left the program ranked 23rd all-time in scoring with 1,146 career points, fourth all-time in rebounds with 791 and seventh all-time in blocked shots with 53. He was out of basketball last year.
The NBLC is in its second year of operation and is an eight-team league with teams in Ontario and eastern Canada. The Summerset Storm play on Prince Edward Island and are scheduled to start training camp on October 15 with their first regular season game set on Nov. 2.
