Dr. Brandon Schmidly Chairs Evangel's Department of Theology & Global Church Ministry. He also serves on the Seminary Academic Leadership Team for AGTS. He loves helping students develop in their ability to think critically about important topics, and in integrating Faith with learning and life as they pursue their God-given calling. He began work at Evangel University in 2007 as an assistant professor of philosophy. His doctoral work at the University of Missouri was in the area of parental rights, and his research, broadly, has been in ethics and social-political philosophy.
Dr. Schmidly is co-editor of the book, Christian Morality: An Interdisciplinary Approach to Christian Moral Decision Making (Pickwick, 2016). He also facilitates a regular grant from the Institute for Humane Studies to thoughtfully engage students in the topic of religious freedom. Dr. Schmidly was the coordinator and host of the 2016 Midwest Society of Christian Philosophers Conference, on the theme: Philosophy & Public Engagement. www.evangel.edu/scp
Dr. Schmidlyís course offerings include introductory philosophy, logic, critical thinking, ethics, ancient philosophy, medieval philosophy, modern philosophy, philosophy of religion, political philosophy, bioethics and several other special topics in philosophy. He has also taught interdisciplinary courses and Essential Christianity. He served as Evangelís Theology department chair in 2013 leading up to the consolidation of the Springfield, Mo. Assemblies of God schools.
Prior to teaching at Evangel, Dr. Schmidly served on pastoral staffs in Springfield and Mount Vernon, Mo. Dr. Schmidly is married to Leanne and they have three wonderful children.
